Online marketing drives business growth for handmade solid silver jewellery entrepreneur October 01 2013
There’s plenty of research to suggest that online retailing is not just here to stay, but that it is set to be a major driver of business growth as the average digital business grew more than 50 times faster than the UK economy as a whole during the past three years (Barclays Online Business Outlook 2013), and the continuing rise in business conducted online is expected to account for 21.5% of all retail sales by 2018 (Centre for Retail Research).
Having started out making bracelets, earrings and pendants for family and friends, I went on to sell jewellery at Shropshire craft fairs. Exhibiting most weekends was important, in that it helped me to establish Anne Reeves Jewellery, but I was finding that I was spending less and less time at home with my family. That’s when we felt the time was right to explore opportunities to grow the business by harnessing the power of the internet.
Developing relationships with key online marketplace retailers, including Notonthehighstreet.com, eBay and Amazon was certainly encouraging and, following our decision to broaden the range of items available via Amazon Marketplace, we’ve been amazed to see orders increase from around two per month to one a day!
The overall impact has been so positive that it prompted us to assess how we could use online marketing to engage more with customers and make doing business with us even easier. As part of this reappraisal www.annereevesjewellery.co.uk underwent a serious makeover and the end result is a new, fully e-commerce enabled website, which enhances the shopping experience by giving you the chance to buy jewellery direct from us!
In a difficult economic climate, I’m convinced that our recent business growth is down to our decision to invest in online marketing. The internet now plays a vital role in the development of the business because as well as opening up new opportunities, I find that the flexibility and control it brings enable me to strike a healthy work/life balance.
I’m excited about using online marketing to engage with people looking for that special gift for a loved one or choosing a small treat for themselves. So, as well as being able to buy online via the website, you’ll find regular updates and tips on the blog. We’re also ramping up our social media activities, so we’d love it if you’d like, follow and generally engage with us on Facebook and Twitter.
